ROBERT FULGHUM (ALL I REALLY NEED TO KNOW I LEARNED IN KINDERGARTEN)
If the world were merely seductive, that would be easy. If it were merely challenging, that would be no problem. But I arise in the morning torn between a desire to improve the world and a desire to enjoy the world. This makes it hard to plan the day.

Who will save me from existence? It isn’t death that I want, or life:
it’s the other thing that shines at the bottom of all longing like a possible diamond in a cave one cannot reach.
— Fernando Pessoa, The Book of Disquiet
Obsessed by a fairy tale, we spend our lives searching for a magic door and a lost kingdom of peace.
— Eugene O’Neill
so lovely.
You wish to see the distant realms? Very well. But know this first, the places you will visit, the places you will see, do not exist. For there are only two worlds — your world, which is the real world, and other worlds, the fantasy. Worlds like this one, worlds of the human imagination. Their reality, or lack of reality is not important. What is important is that they are there. These worlds provide an alternative. Provide an escape. Provide a threat. Provide a dream, and power, provide refuge and pain. They give your world meaning. They do not exist; and thus they are all that matter.
The Books of Magic, Neil Gaiman
So she had to satisfy herself with the idea of love — loving the loving of things whose existence she didn’t care at all about. Love itself became the object of her love. She loved herself in love, she loved loving love, as love loves loving, and was able, in that way, to reconcile herself with a world that fell so short of what she would have hoped for. It was not the world that was the great and saving lie, but her willingness to make it beautiful and fair, to live a once-removed life, in a world once-removed from the one in which everyone else seemed to exist.
Everything is Illuminated by Jonathan Safran Foer

the sun will hit my black out curtains just right,
orchestrating a show of coruscating lights.

I like trees because they seem more resigned to the way they have to live than other things do.

Instillation artist, Jason de Caires Taylor creates fascinating and breathtaking life size cement sculptures for an underwater experiment in South America. He explores the relationship between art and environment in this series. After months of being submerged, the sculptures begin to form the natural ecological processes that occur underwater.
An except of his artist statement:
“The ocean is imbued with mystery. Underwater and devoid of white walls the viewer is unrestrained in their interaction with the work. Buoyancy and weightlessness enable a detached physical experience, encouraging encounters that are perceptual and personal. As time passes and the works change, they reshape and redefine the underwater landscape in unpredictable ways.”
He goes into further detail on his website.
A lovely video of his work.
Here are some photographs of his wondrous artwork.
